Exactly.  I try not to give to anyone who A) I'm not sure is low overhead and real and B) is trying to push religion or politics more than having a real interest in helping people.

In general it is better for a person to give bigger donations to fewer charities that person REALLY believes in, understands, and knows will use the money well.

It takes significant time to do significant research.
