The Street Kids of San Francisco
Jason Belich stashed this in anxiety
Stashed in: San Francisco!, psychedelics, computers, hippies, technology, growth
Interesting that the author managed find the handful of hippies left in the park... because they sure in the hell aren't the majority.....
I agree that the Bay Area is way more complex than just a few Haight Ashbury people who are trying to re-live the 60s. That imagery is basically an overhyped portrayal of something that happened decades ago. Basically, people OVER-FOCUS on the stereotype of what has been fed to them by the media...such a shame...
Also, while 'hippies' may not be the majority (probably never were), many other more 'relevant' movements actually were rooted in that history. I can come up with a list if you'd like. Even the history of Bay Area technological innovation is deeply rooted in what happened at that time. In fact, I believe Steve Jobs was very involved in the psychedelic tradition, and he didn't do so poorly.

Actually, I also agree that it's the diversity of the people and cultures area that makes the area so great!
Of course, discovering all the fascinating segments of society in the area takes lots of time and an open mind. You must move out of your social circles, which many of us actually do on a daily basis. Perhaps it's easier when you don't necessarily fit into just one neatly-defined social segment for most of your life....you have to learn to make yourself comfortable wherever you are...
Also, Agreed => Don't let a few online photos fool you into thinking you know the whole truth.
This one has better production value.
