Why GitHub decided to raise a giant $100M in venture capital:

To give it a buffer, because the company was running so cash-lean at the time.

It takes $30M to launch an enterprise software product to make $10M/year.  Add to that all the initial cost of product-market fit, security, and everything else.  That's with the right-smart people.  I hope they have the right-smart people, learn from their customers, and make the right decisions. 

Either way, good for them, and I hope they do it the right way. 

Those are excellent points. GitHub seems to be getting it right, and that's awesome.

Also I love their statement that if you only hire in Silicon Valley, you don't have the best talent:
