Target to Its Managers: Not All Hispanics Eat Tacos
Liz Bugarin stashed this in -isms
Stashed in: That's racist!, YOLO!, Tacos!, Target
"arget would like to remind its managers that not all Hispanics wear sombreros and eat tacos.
That's according to a discrimination lawsuit filed by three former Target warehouse workers in YOLO (OMG That's a place?!) County, California. The complaint states that the employees were subjected to discrimination from their nearly all white supervisors, who regularly used racial slurs when talking to Hispanic employees.
Not only that, but according to the suit, Target distributed a document to all its warehouse managers called, "Organization Effectiveness, Employee and Labor Relations Multi-Cultural Tips." The handout featured suggestions on how managers should deal with Hispanic employees.
Highlights of the document, according to the lawsuit:
a. Food: not everyone eats tacos and burritos;
b. Music: not everyone dances to salsa;
c. Dress: not everyone wears a sombrero;
d. Mexicans (lower education level, some may be undocumented);
e. Cubans (Political refugees, legal status, higher education level); and
f. They may say 'OK, OK' and pretend to understand, when they do not, just to save face.
The three plaintiffs claim that they were fired in retaliation for lodging a complaint with human resources.
Seriously???
Target and the GOP: WINNING when it comes to minority outreach and engagement."
:( :( :(
At this point tacos are a food beloved by all people, right?
Well, except maybe people with corn/flour allergies. Yeah, Yolo's proximity to Sacramento and the fact that it happened there isn't surprising. I definitely feel out of my element the further up Northern California I go.
You and me both. Northern California does not feel like California.
It feels like Nevada and Oregon had a love child.
