All countries, continents, oceans and areas are shown according to their actual size. Text and diagrams alongside the map compare and contrast the properties of the Peter's projection with other maps. Awareness of the distortions and compromises inherent in various world maps is a critical part of map literacy.

South America, Africa, and Australia are much bigger than I've been taught.
no... the peters projection is probably among the most distorted of any of them. It just happens to be distorted by a constant factor for each grid. It's only 'argument' is political correctness.
Still, it makes people think differently, and that's got some utility.
