I Do Dumb Things. Ban Technology.
Dawn Casey-Rowe stashed this in EdTech
Stashed in: Plan!
Sometimes I get frustrated that I can't teach my lessons because things have been blocked, banned and filtered. What concerns me more is when people continue to say "What if (they) do something bad." They're not always talking about the students. Technology isn't the end all...a good lesson is. Technology just makes it seemless when used correctly. My dream is that we spend less time banning and more time planning:) I'd like that...a lot.
"More Planning Less Banning" is a great battle cry, Dawn.
I'm not sure I understand the context of what's being banned but yeah, what Dawn and Geege say!
Geege--I knew I liked that rhyme when it came out. You'll see that again. Adam... hmm, let's see... how about YouTube, most SM, any website that could possibly help.... and if a site dares to come through, the web will be spotty. I know a chem teacher who had a lab safety video (YouTube) embedded for class. Blocked. What's plan B?
"Now, class, please don't blow anything up. Let's get mixing!"
RE: SM, I don't have my class Facebooking during class, but fact is, many sites use FB/Twitter as login, so if that's blocked, we may not be able to log into accounts.
Can't tell you how many awesome lessons I've prepped to have them blocked by tech bans right as I go to teach. Frustrating.
Perhaps the educational facility of the future is simply a No-Technology-Bans place?
