OUYA: A New Kind of Video Game Console by OUYA — Kickstarter

Stashed in: Video Games, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!, Kickstarter, Gamification!, Skyrim!

"We are designing the controller to be a love letter to console gaming. It will have everything you've learned to love: fast buttons, triggers, laser-precise analog sticks, a D-Pad – and it will have a touchpad for any games making the trek from mobile or tablet to the TV. It'll be just the right weight. We are working with select developers to play-test the controller through development.  We call it 'the Stradivarius of controllers,' and we hope developers will be inspired to take gameplay to a new level with it."

Love their bold vision.

I love that they're selling it for $99, and got more than 10,000 backers at that price.

(Bonus points for the $1337 level.)

"Hacker friendly" system scares me for competitive multiplayer aspect and they need more than Minecraft and Cannonbalt if they want to be "hardcore". I think it would be easier for console makers to loosen up a bit rather than start from scratch. Love the price but I doubt it will run Skyrim. Still, sounds like a sweet deal for indie console devs!

Also, after playing an iPad exclusively for a month, I think Ouya can disrupt Nintendo on mobile.

They'll need an exclusive AAA game studio though.

Nintendo 3DS is amazing, but as of now, Nintendo is deathly afraid of ios and android -- I would truly consider buying an Ouya touch or an Ouya phone; I hope the controller can truly function as a mobile device to make mobile gaming on android suck less -- and to encourage Nintendo to do better.

I'm very skeptical of this for some reason. I don't think I understand their goal but Im excited to find out.
