Yochai Benkler is a Harvard professor, and I've fallen in love with his work.
I think his body of work provides an incredible theoretical and historical perspective on how generosity is relevant to us in today's networked world.
I recommend both of his books - The Penguin and the Leviathan: How Cooperation Triumphs over Self-Interest and The Wealth of Networks: How Social Production Transforms Markets and Freedom.
