The wreath may have evoked old-fashioned associations with aristocracy, but it was a complex graphic form that challenged designers who tried to apply it either to vehicles or to the screens of small electronic devices.
The hands-on designer of the new crest was Nathan Korkus, a G.M. designer, who widened the shield shape and subtly shaded elements at its edges.
Continuing the 2014 trend of simplifying and flattening logo designs.
