Setting a goal is not the main thing. ~Tom Landry
Adam Rifkin stashed this in Leadership!
It's all about execution...
Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan. ~ Tom Landry
Ends and means need to be aligned. Anything you don't enjoy isn't going to happen for long, especially if it's in service of an abstract or long-range goal.
I found Tom Landry's line in this pile of motivational quotes.
Nietzsche has a similar phrase on how genius means not only to want the goal but the way to get there (quoting from memory.)
As for "staying with that plan," I would think the plan may constantly need adaptation.
That's a very good point. We need to adapt when new information comes available.
And the notion that Tom Landry and Nietzsche agree on something makes me chuckle. :)
