NPR's list of 100 best YA novels. Kinda surprised how female the protagonists lean these days, and how little military influence is in this list.

if teen fiction is for everyone, what makes it teen fiction? What made teen fiction or YA during my/our youth?

Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Twilight are relatively new franchises.

The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy remind me of my youth.

There's a surprising amount of To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies, Fahrenheit 451, and Catcher in the Rye-style fiction still. I guess those are more timeless than I realized.

I've never heard of book #4 on the list, The Fault in our Stars by John Green. It's a 2012 book, and he has five titles in the top 100, even though I've never heard of him.

I'm glad to see Fifty Shades of Grey didn't make the list.

Even so, Why are there so many vampire books???

Some MUST read books on there, but y no Stitch in Time? Martian Chronicles? Jules Verne? The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe???!!!

Well, this list is only the top 100 out of 1200 -- I'm sure those others are in the top 1000.

The list itself has a lot of trendy stuff on it.

I've discovered John Green, and I think he's awesome.
