Selfies with celebrities are threatening to eclipse the autograph with awkward consequences for stars who wish to maintain a glamorous public image.

Shane Warner, the cricketer, observed last week that fans now wanted his face rather than his signature. “After doing five selfies with people before 8am on my morning run/walk, I’ve come to the conclusion that the autograph is dead,” he wrote on Twitter.
