I had an allotment in a community garden once. It was right next to a grammar school. The kids would pick and throw at each other any round vegetable or flower. It's pretty maddening to grow a brussels sprouts plant, which only "sprouts" once around Thanksgiving time, for a WHOLE FRICKIN' YEAR just to have some cute kids think: "round thing, must pick and throw at each other!" I found that the only thing they would not touch is green leafy veg... that was like Kryptonite to them, no lie. Chard is the community gardener's best friend.
