Half of my job is spotting, rescuing, trapping and relocating koalas. Let me assure you, if there is a way to put themselves in harms way, they will find it.
They seem to have a suicide drive much stronger than their survival drive.
Also, many populations are absolutely riddled with chlamydia, inbreeding, eye problems, overpopulation (they run out of food).
Sometimes we have a win, but overall it is a very sad gig. I've no idea how they've even survived this long.
