This is exactly why short-term thinking politicians in the pay of oil interests do not want NASA to be in the earth science business. If you believe the science behind this image, there is little alternative but to be terrified for the future of humanity. Shoutout to the courage of NASA scientists, whose livelihoods are squarely in the crosshairs of politicians who have vowed to defund their work... yet they are still able to release statements like this:

“NASA is in the business of taking what we’ve learned about our planet from space and creating new products that help us all safeguard our future,” said Ellen Stofan, NASA chief scientist.

NASA understands it can only fight politics with politics.
