Until now, there have been no federal limits to the amount of carbon pollution plants dump in the air. 

Now that the USA finally join the movement, the next big one to get is China.

Hopefully things will move a little more at the COP21 in Paris, November 30th to December 11th 2015.

What use could we have of being pessimistic?

I don't see any.

I think pessimism is an excuse lazy people use to justify their inaction and inability to take decisions.

Want to act? Be optimistic.

And being optimistic makes you want to act.

What's the main takeaway?

Shoot.  It's the opposite of optimism.

As the piece makes clear, though, it is not just the backlash that is making climate scientists depressed. It is that they know what is happening to the planet is far worse than what gets publicized.
