Paul Slansky: Paul Ryan Said Something That Should Force Him Off the Ticket, But You Probably Didn't Hear About It
Christina Wodtke stashed this in covering eyes and hoping it'll go away
Stashed in:
"Last week, Paul Ryan gave an interview in which, defending his position that there should be no excuses for abortion, he referred to rape as a "method of conception."
Wow, right? Talk about a benign euphemism. Rape -- RAPE! -- is now a "method of conception." You know, like love-making, just without the love."
I got nothing. I give up.
technically correct though? women get pregnant from rape. I am by no means defending the opinion, but to me the clip seemed like there is nothing to make the news about. am I missing something?
I went back and forth as well, as I watched the clip, so I shared it.
I agree with the article that it is a dangerous frame (not sure I agree with the hysteria). I'm not sure it should force him off the ticket. I do think that knowing that's how he thinks of rape-- as a form of conception-- is worth every woman knowing. What she does with that information is her business. I know what I'll do with that insight (although admittedly it's not a change, since he's been openly prolife forever)
The bible is full of sanctioned rape, from Sabine women on. I'm scared of the people who hold this world view.
and so, I got nothing.
perhaps we are missing the point...the fact that Ryan recognizes pregnancy from rape is a good thing...watch daily show clip
