An app collects voice files, which are analyzed by a machine-learning system to detect the onset of manic episodes in bipolar patients. Fresh use of technology to take an approach that doesn't just replicate things that humans do -- but might very well be better.
I really hope it helps people.
In other words, our current, human-centric system of taking care of these highly vulnerable people isn’t working. So what would work better? It looks like a small, unobtrusive piece of technology might work pretty well here, and improve caregiving via automation.
