Let's Encrypt Has Issued its First Million Certificates
Jared Sperli stashed this in security

For those who may have missed the more basic story. The EFF has a free certificate service, of the kind website providers need to set up so that users can see the "secure padlock" icon while browsing, signifying encrypted communications, and for other basic security tasks. In the past this has been something of a racket IMO, involving significant yearly fees from one of the for-profit certificate authorities.
Thanks, I missed this story.
So now with the EFF's free service, websites no longer have to pay for SSL certificates?
