She talks about symbiosis between microorganisms, our bodies, and what we build:

"Between Henry Ford and Charles Darwin..."

After getting her PhD, she founded the Mediated Matter group at the MIT Media Lab, where she is an associate professor. The group uses computational design, digital fabrication, materials science and synthetic biology to explore design possibilities in small and large structures. Their projects have included mythological creatures, solar-powered design, clothing inspired by Anthozoa and other creatures, 3D-printed fluidic clothing for synthetic microorganisms, a 3D printer for glass, and a pagoda spun by 6,500 silkworms.
