Palmer Luckey’s Trump fund has been a kick in the teeth for VR

Last night, The Daily Beast reported that virtual reality pioneer Palmer Luckey had secretly funded a pro-Trump group called Nimble America, dedicated to promoting internet memes and "shitposting" in support of the candidate.

In the time before this statement, a handful of developers openly announced that they’re suspending work on Oculus headsets. Plenty of Twitter users have sworn off the platform, and Reddit’s Oculus community is debating the piece in a 3,700-comment thread. But it’s difficult to gauge what the long-term fallout will be, both for Oculus and the people who have invested months or years of work building for VR. Privately, developers I’ve spoken with have expressed a mix of frustration and disappointment, along with uncertainty over their relationship with a company whose name is nearly synonymous with virtual reality

Wow I wonder if Facebook will fire him.

Most gamers gave up on Oculus when Facebook bought it.

It's gonna be a shitfest of pay2win games.

So what do gamers use instead? Or are they waiting for something new?

I didn't get the impression there are a lot of hive users.

Palmer Luckey: The Facebook Near-Billionaire Secretly Funding Trump’s Meme Machine

The 24-year-old told The Daily Beast that he had used the pseudonym “NimbleRichMan” on Reddit with a password given to him by the organization’s founders.

Nimble America says it’s dedicated to proving that “shitposting is powerful and meme magic is real,” according to the company’s introductory statement, and has taken credit for a billboard its founders say was posted outside of Pittsburgh with a cartoonishly large image of Clinton’s face alongside the words “Too Big to Jail.”

“We conquered Reddit and drive narrative on social media, conquered the [mainstream media], now it’s time to get our most delicious memes in front of Americans whether they like it or not,” a representative for the group wrote in an introductory post on Reddit.

He did it secretly.

I wonder if that's because he knew people would act against him if we knew what he was doing.

Palmer Luckey claims he's being misrepresented:

He says he is libertarian, not a Trump supporter.

Then again he gave more money to haters than most Americans have in savings.
