Why Don't Young Americans Buy Cars?

They're not too fond of marriage and houses, either.
They do care about smart phones and video games.
In other words, they'd rather play an iPhone automobile game than ACTUALLY drive.

Maybe a combination of factors: No built-in family / personal requirement, high gas prices, the relative ease of connecting with others through social media, the high concentration of youth with buying power in urban centers with adequate public transportation, the ease of renting cars for temporary usage when needed through services like ZipCar ... just to name a few.
Ultimately, it probably comes down to the fact that they just don't see the cost/benefit ratio working in their favor.
Personally, I think it's a great trend.
