"Let Detroit go bankrupt." ~Mitt Romney

I just went back and re-read what Mitt Romney wrote in the New York Times four years ago.
This has to have been the stupidest Op-Ed piece ever written.
Quoting Romney using his own words:
If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed.
Romney may have been advocating "managed bankruptcy", but in doing so he alienated significant voter blocs in Michigan and Ohio who know nothing about the way bankruptcy works, and only think that Romney was calling for an end to the U.S. Auto Industry as we know it.
Just using that phrase -- Let Detroit Go Bankrupt -- may have cost Romney the election.
