Microsoft: We've sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses to date
Ottway Ducard stashed this in MSFT

Seems like a business ripe for disruption.
iPhones, iPads, Macs, Chromebooks, and Android devices all want a piece of that.
It's going to get increasingly difficult for Microsoft to compete with free.
OS X does not give away new OS for free, no?
Microsoft will continue to be a hybrid of Google, Apple, Oracle, and Amazon, I think, with some Facebook thrown in the mix there.
Not sure they are bold enough to focus on *just* a few areas (e.g. Mac, iPhone, iPad, MacBook, MacBook Air) a la Apple.
They've already *lost* on mobile; can they make it up? I don't think so. But perhaps on tablet it's not too late to leapfrog their way to the front of the "laptop/tablet" ultra book market, securing their future.
They can, like Apple, sell Office piecemeal via their own windows 8 store.
And continue to innovate on future tech. No sense why they can't be dominant moving forward.
