I'm still looking for great examples of share buttons.
These mouseover share circles are easy for a user to understand and use.
I think Imgur Gallery is the best example on the Web right now of well-implemented share buttons: the tight row of buttons in the image footer with tips on mouseover is a clean, simple, elegant design.
the iOS dev In me says:
- No mouseover please!
- the imgur icons are too tight and hard to tap.
On a website, I like a simple "Share" button that exposes a nice spaced array of tappable buttons with labels. No mouse over, no scrubbing, no surprises, and hopefully, no mistaps. Just two taps total.
Rule of thumb: 40x40 pixels minimum for finger tapability, with 5-8 pixels of margin.
