I hated every minute of training, but I said, "Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion." ~ Muhammad Ali
So keep training.
Eric Barker has an excellent post on the two kinds of happiness, which leads me back to two observations.
1) People are very bad at predicting what will make them happy.
2) There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.
And now, back to starting up the startup...
And here's one of the reasons we're so bad at predicting what will make us happy, and what we can do about it: http://www.bakadesuyo.com/why-are-we-so-bad-at-predicting-what-will-mak
The word you want is not 'happy' but rather 'contentment' 'thankfulness' or 'joy'. Happiness comes from happenings - fortune and luck - like, 'perhaps'. I thought of a passage from James 1:1-4 - "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." Of course, this is talking about faith in the Lord Jesus, but you get the idea. In that sense 'happiness' is the way rather than the rewards along the way (though those are nice too).
Seconding Eric's point #2 that Happiness is the way. Shawn Achor has an awesome book called the Happiness Advantage which I'm currently reading. Here's one of the cool podcasts where he talks about why "Happy Brains Perform Better" http://www.shawnachor.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=118:harvard-business-review&catid=40:blogs&Itemid=144
Must stay optimistic :)
