In response to an awful Forbes article a few days ago, Kim Polese writes a thoughtful response:
"Today only 3.6% of Fortune 500 companies are led by women. And when it comes to the future of women in computing, the numbers are in an alarming downward spiral. The number of women in the U.S. graduating with computer science college degrees has declined from 37% in 1984, to less than 12% today. As a country we need to be doing a much better job encouraging women to enter the computer industry, and become leaders."
Amen.
Actually female executives DO have a choice about the photographs that are published of them. Kim was guilty of a spectacular misjudgment on this count, but Sheryl never has been.
All the more reason that Forbes was out of line in its article about Sheryl: http://www.forbes.com/sites/ericjackson/2012/05/23/apology-sheryl-sandberg-kim-polese/
