In honor of National Parks Week, here's a history of the strange status of National Monuments in the US.

It's kind of funny.  One of my favorite national parks and recreation museums is in Lake Perris, CA.  It's a beautiful building.  It's the national, regional Indian museum.  When I was a kid growing up, we used to find Indian arrowheads all over the place.  I had a collection of them. Now they are all priceless artifacts.  Whodda thunk?  I probably should have kept a couple of them.
