It happened: Microsoft to buy Nokia’s device division for 5.44 billion euros — Tech News and Analysis
Sergey Zelvenskiy stashed this in technology
Stashed in: Microsoft

Google bought Motorola, Microsoft bought Nokia. Software is eating hardware.
Once hardware becomes a significant percent of their revenues, their margins go WAY down.
Which means they get a smaller price to earnings multiple from the market.
A sign that they are no longer big-growth companies.
Then again, when you're as big as Google or Microsoft, how much more can you grow anyway.
Google has a potential to grow with the consumer internet. Microsoft has a potential to grow with corporate IT departments of medium size businesses.
Fair enough. So does Microsoft buy Blackberry next?
