What this beautiful graphic tells me is that vaccines are one of those technological breakthroughs that became so successful they led to their own demise. Most younger Americans now do not know anyone who died of or was permanently injured by a viral disease... therefore they do not have the proper fear responses. Smallpox, whooping cough, polio... those are all things from Little House on the Prairie or Les Miserables, not things that you're legitimately afraid of your children being crippled by. I hope it doesn't take a pandemic to change our attitudes.
