An amazing sculpture is made by pouring molten aluminum into a fire ant colony.

The resulting cast is huge, weighing 17.9 lbs. and reaching a depth of 18 inches.

I'm sure the ants love the legacy... maybe we can start doing these for Congress.  Doubt the depth reaches to 18" though...

Btw wtf?!

Holy smokes!!!

How ant colonies work:

So did he just kill a shit-ton of ants or what?

Fuck ants! Now in Texas we have to deal with Raspberry Crazy Ants.

Raspberry Ants sound delicious.

And yes, many ants die for this art.

kill it with fire gif

Hahaha! Raspberry ants DO sound delicious!  Even crazy ones!  But fire ants are awful.  I think making cast aluminum sculptures out of their amazing underground structures is a beautiful way to both admire and exterminate them!

Emily, you make me laugh with your word choice.

The whole anthillart site is pretty fascinating: http://anthillart.com/

So cool!  I just love animals... except fire ants.  I'd happily see those little bastards eradicated!  And the sculptures are amazing!  I love how well-balanced they are.  I think this guy has stumbled upon the perfect solution!  It's fiery, artful, and even reverent.  Bravo!
