As a result, people who have a growth mindset are more likely maximize their potential. They tend to learn from criticism rather than ignoring it, to overcome challenges rather than avoiding them, and to find inspiration in the success of others rather than feeling threatened.
I wish more people could learn the growth mindset.
On this topic I prefer Josh Waitzkin's book, "The Art of Learning", where he discusses the fixed and growth mindset that can be conditioned from childhood. His perspective is that anyone can learn to use a growth mindset and even attain mastery quickly through dedicated practice.
.
Publishers Weekly wrote,
"The concept of incremental progress through diligent practice of the fundamentals isn't new, but Waitzkin certainly gives it a fresh spin."
You might recall Waitzkin's name because he was the subject of his father's book and the ensuing movie, "Searching for Bobby Fischer". That story alone would be all well and good as an example of a child prodigy with a growth mindset shredding the competition circuit, but then Waitzkin left chess as a master at the top of his game and decided to start all over as a novice--in Tai Chi. He didn't just become good at it, he become world champion in Tai Chi push hands competitions in mainland China...what up, round-eye white boy, tearing it up with the closed door masters!
Now dem's some powerful learning principles with real world, applied results to back 'em up.
.
PS Not only that, but his sister run's Josh's foundation, which benefits from sales of the book, and is aimed at bringing these learning principles about growth mindsets to teachers in public children's education as a non-profit. I prefer that knock-on effect to James Clear hitting me with a rice-bowl pop-up window for his book and the necessary consulting to follow...
Personal disclosure: I don't know Josh, but I did talk to his sister by phone about helping her grow their foundation's impacts, pro bono.
