This is a good one! It took me a long time to figure this out.
Me too, Jennie. Still figuring it out, actually.
There is a great Shel Silverstein poem about this called "Masks":
She had blue skin, And so did he. He kept it hid And so did she. They searched for blue Their whole life through Then passed right by ---- And never knew.
Just be.
If Calvin Klein wants me to be, and Nike wants me to do it, how do I reconcile those?
There's a big difference between being and doing.
"To be is to do" -Socrates
"To do is to be" -Sartre
"Do Be Do Be Do" -Sinatra
Funny, I always through Sinatra was singing "Scooby Scooby Doo" which is where I thought the dog's name came from.
"Be Who You Are" is probably the most important of the three. Not all of us are blessed to be naturally weird or random.
Even better, "Be Who You Want To Be."
Chris, I agree, and I would take it one step further:
Ha, great minds think alike. Check out the tagline for this interview I did with Gretchen Rubin:
"Decide What You Want or Need to Do, and Then Do It With All Your Power."
That's awesome. I've never talked with Gretchen but I am a fan.
Is it safe to say that happiness correlates with being yourself?

"Be Who You Want To Be" reminds me of this John Lennon line...
