Many people who have their photo taken with police officers do so in a less friendly context. They’re being arrested, or perhaps violently restrained. So users have begun tweeting out those photos. The hashtag suggested by the NYPD, #myNYPD, is trending nationally.

Twitter hashtag nonsense are the reason why the world cannot trust the mainstream with social media.
Anyone who has seen garbage YouTube comments is familiar with the phenomenon.
Imgur and Reddit combat bad comments nicely with a downvote button.
Twitter is not so lucky, so all the garbage gets to have its day in the sun.
