A New Women's Issue: Statins

Statins do ZERO to help women live longer, and in fact can cause diabetes in women, which is proven to be harmful. So why do doctors recommend them? Because our "data driven" society finds cholesterol to be a handy "quantifiable" and therefore presumably objective measure of doctor quality. Your doctor is quite likely getting graded on the cholesterol and blood pressure of their patients, which of course leads them to overprescribe drugs which reduce these numbers -- whether or not those drugs actually improve quantity or quality of life.
I have personally fired a doctor who told me to lose 25 lb and start taking statins, and I urge every woman to do the same since there is no benefit whatsoever to the female patient.
Sad that it's a minority of doctors rebelling against statins:
Medical guidelines issued late last yearmay double the number of Americans who are told to take thesecholesterol-lowering drugs. But the recommendations don’t distinguish patients by gender, and a small, increasingly vocal group of cardiologists believe that’s a mistake.
Far too many healthy women are taking statins, they say, though some research indicates the drugs will do them little good and may be more likely to cause serious side effects in women.
