Starbucks to Pay U.S. Workers to Get Degree From ASU Online

Starbucks to Pay U.S. Workers to Get Degree From ASU Online  - Bloomberg

Starbucks employees who work at least 20 hours a week and enroll in the university’s online bachelor’s degree will get $6,500 -- about half of their tuition -- for the first two years, the company said in a statement. They will then get full tuition for the final two.

Why does it make sense for Starbucks to pay for its employees to get degrees?

Do they have to stay a certain number of years after they get their degree?

No they are not tied to the company after or during their studies.  First 2 years Starbucks pays 1/2, last 2 years they pay 100%.  My guess is it keeps a stable, intelligent population tied to them for 4 years, less turnover, and training ;)

Plus it presumably engenders loyalty. Customer for life!
