I may be biased but I find Korean vernacular architecture to be among the most well-engineered as well as the most beautiful. With a combination of careful siting, underfloor heating from the cooking fire, wooden floors for cooling, and removable exterior walls the peasants of old enjoyed one of the most resource-efficient yet comfortable ways to deal with a continental climate.
