This is the best explanation I've ever read of how bike share works in real life. Think: cheaper, easier, cooler taxi service :) Now I can't wait to try it!

If only Sunnyvale had them too!

Does San Jose have one?

Yes, San Jose is part of the same Bay Area bikeshare system.Sunnyvale is not yet, but even when it is... the way these systems work is that you have to dock the bike within 30 minutes or pay huge overtime charges. In the suburbs there is usually only one bikeshare dock, at the Caltrain station. Where in Sunnyvale can you bike somewhere and back in 30 minutes minus whatever time it takes to complete your errand?

Just the Caltrain to downtown Sunnyvale.

Maybe the burbs need to offer more time.

No I finally figured it out! The only thing that bike share in Sunnyvale will be good for is what it's good for in Mt View today. There is a light rail station in between the two Caltrain stations, and the bike share works for people who are transferring from light rail to Caltrain/bus/corporate shuttle or vice versa. That greatly expands the area where people can live and still take public transit to Silicon Valley jobs.
