Yoga Hosers is geek movie legend Kevin Smith's first comic book film. Instead of casting a buff bro in the action-hero title role, he's constructing an action-adventure story that has two teenage girls saving the world from an ancient evil.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Depp, and daughter Lily Rose Depp, will join Kevin Smith's daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, to headline the film. The two young women will star as yoga-obsessed girls that will tackle an "ancient evil," and a whole bunch of Canadian jokes.
When that evil puts a damper on the girls' plans to attend a grade 12 party, they join up with Johnny Depp's character "to fight for their lives with...all seven Chakras, one Warrior Pose at a time."
The movie is pitched as a follow-up to Smith's Tusk, and is the second in Smith's True North Trilogy, "movies which are steeped in Canadian myths and culture"
This will be one of the first high profile, action-oriented comic book films to feature two young women as hero-protagonists (We'd love to count Ghost World, but there was no ancient evil to struggle against), a point that Smith raises in the article.
"People always ask me 'Are you ever going to make a comic book movie? This is it - but instead of yet another dude saving the day, our antiheroes are the most feared and formidable creatures man has ever encountered: two fifteen year old girls."
The inclusion of capable teenaged girls and young women points towards a trend in games as well. We've seen this with Lara in last year's Tomb Raider reboot, with Ellie inThe Last of Us and Clementine in season two of The Walking Dead. Maybe this is the long tail of Buffy's legacy.
