44 states currently have lotteries.

States spend half a billion dollars on advertising the lottery in 2013.

$68 billion is more than Americans spent on movie tickets, music, porn, baseball, football, and videogames combined.

"Which basically means Americans spent more on lottery tickets than they spent on America."

"The lottery is in the business of selling people hope, and they do a great job of that."

What percentage goes to education?

Very little.

According to John Oliver, of the 24 states who give lottery money to education, 21 of them are down in education revenues because they actually move the money to other things.
