Vegan Cheese Is Being Made with Human DNA
Halibutboy Flatfish stashed this in Eat drink party

Nutball project to take DNA sequences from humans and use them to program yeasts to make "milk proteins" that can be easily turned into cheese. They don't really claim that the cheese will taste GOOD, just that it might be less shitty than the vegan cheese now available... and that lactose-intolerant people might be less "sensitive" to stuff made from human-derived proteins despite the fact that there's basically no lactose in most cheese so they might be intolerant of something but it's not lactose (maybe life, joy, deliciousness, and basic scientific knowledge). Honestly I would pay good money to have this stuff subjected to a blind taste test with milk made from human breasts...
You know, it's a really low bar to set when all they want is to be better tasting than existing vegan cheese.
Existing vegan cheese tastes like... Ugh.
And what's with hipster vegan cheese scientist guy???
You expected a guy making vegan cheese to be handsome and buff?
"....this stuff subjected to a blind taste test with milk made from human breasts..."
Boob cheese?
Must be for SCIENCE!
I do not expect my vegan cheese researchers to be handsome, but I am a bit put off by the obvious filthiness of his lab coat! He's making food here, right?
Geege, prepare to be disgusted:
You're in luck. On the heels of the Baby Gaga breast milk ice cream, comesbreast milk cheese. An exhibit by NYU student Miriam Simun at the Michael Mut Gallery titled, "The Human Cheese Project" will enable you to sample fine frommage created from what could arguably be the best source of milk—the human breast. At The Lady Cheese Shop, visitors have the option to taste three kinds of cheeses, each sourced from a different lactating woman, and sample it with food and wine pairings created by Chef Sarah Hymanson. You might automatically recoil at the idea of eating human milk cheese, but Miriam poses this thought-provoking question: "How do we understand what is natural, healthy, and ethical? If we reject all technologically modified food in favor of what is 'natural,' how far back do we go?" Wonder if it will appeal to locavores and sustainable eaters out there, or if we're going to see breast milk cheese in our greenmarkets in the near future. (Trendhunter)
Adam, I was not prepared.
"You might automatically recoil at the idea of eating human milk cheese" = a "marketing challenge".
Joyce's "My Vegan Cheese" would make a great rock/indie/alt band name - after the fashion of "My Chemical Romance".
I hear ya. And added:
