Fascinating Radiolab piece on how emotions are based on the perceptions of our body, and not our conscious awareness. Our bodies become aware of something (for example, a bear attacking) and makes changes (heart pumping, sweating, etc.), and it's when we consciously become aware of the changes in our body that we experience the emotion of fear.
