Unplanned pregnancies cost taxpayers $21 billion in 2010
Halibutboy Flatface stashed this in Fail
I don't have an agenda here, but the raw numbers are... startling. 51% of all births in the USA, and 68% of the unplanned births, were paid for by public insurance aka taxpayers. In some states (*cough*Mississippi*cough*) over 70% of all births and 80% of unplanned births are paid for by the public. Taxpayers shell out $41 billion a year for pregnancies! That amounts to like $660 for every woman in the US ages 15 - 44!!! Pretty sure we could buy a LOT of birth control for that kind of money if we bought in bulk.
$41 billion a year for pregnancies is way higher than I realized. Why isn't this bigger news?
