That's 5x 2012. Ingrid Lunden writes:

The researchers at eMarketer have put out their latest figures on mobile advertising revenue in the U.S., and while they are holding firm on their forecast that they will bring in $2.6 billion this year (it’s a number they actually put out in January 2012), they have drilled down a bit more into who is making what. Unsurprisingly, Google is still at the top of the pile: it will account for 56% of all mobile ad sales. Perhaps more surprisingly, Twitter is doing better than Facebook in driving revenues where mobile ads are concerned: the world’s biggest social network will make half as much as Twitter in mobile ads this year: $72.7 million versus $129.7 million, the analysts say.

However that is bound to be reversed over time: eMarketer predicts that by 2014, Facebook will be making $629.4 million in mobile ads, compared to $444 million for Twitter, putting Facebook at a distant second to Google.

Longer term, eMarketer predicts that U.S. mobile advertising will generate sales of $12 billion by 2016.

Huge opportunities in mobile ads are coming.

Google is poised to be #1.

Interesting. One issue I see with mobile advertising is due to screen real estate contraints it pretty much has to be native. And native has a bunch of issues including scaling and costs developing custom campaigns for each platform. So the big guys will be able to do mobile advertising but I struggle to see it working for the vast majority of apps.

Agreed that Google, Apple, and Microsoft have an advantage here.

This is why Amazon is likely to make its own phone, too.

We live in interesting times when the power shifted from Nokia, Samsung, and RIM to Apple, Google, and Amazon.

Pandora, Facebook, Twitter, and Yahoo have an interesting choice to partner or build their own ad networks.

Lots of possibilities. This could get interesting.

I still think Facebook mobile sponsored stories could be huge.

It will be interesting to see if Twitter has a straight shot to a billion in revenues, or if they stumble on the way.

I'm amazed at how Pandora ($226m) will exceed Twitter ($129m) plus Facebook ($72m) this year.
