Mythbusters really dropped the ball on this one. They kept thinking "Okay, our arrow-splitting machine isn't working at 5 feet distance, let's move it even closer!" - They had no idea that it's actually easier to split an arrow if you fire it from farther away. They had the reasoning right - they were able to see in their high speed camera that the arrow was wobbling and flexing too much to fly a straight line down the middle of another arrow. They just didn't realise that the wobbling stops after about 10 feet of distance.
