The Potential $100 Trillion Market For Space Mining
Jared Sperli stashed this in space

Ok, I'm going to read the article now. Going in with an open mind, though....
This seems unfair:
The SPACE Act bill, if passed, will allow private companies to mine asteroids and sell whatever they dig up.
“Any asteroid resources obtained in outer space are the property of the entity that obtained such resources, which shall be entitled to all property rights thereto, consistent with applicable provisions of Federal law and existing international obligations.” -H.R. 1508
To me it reads like science fiction, or an old Twilight Zone plot. Except for Congress's the Space Act ~ H.R. 1508; this is real. When is it a 'good' time to start with laws and regulations for improbable projects focusing on unfathomable objects?
Well it sounds like some companies are already planning on claiming those objects for themselves.
So the time to legislate is now.
I just find it unfair that whoever gets to an object first gets to own it.
In my mind, those objects either have no owner or they belong to all of us.
