Isn't one of the benefits of delivery that customers don't have to be available when their packages arrive? And this doesn't seem cost effective, since the trucks would be limited to only delivering packages that each customer predetermines are lightweight enough for them to carry from the truck.
"The trucks would be fitted with a series of lockers that could potentially be unlocked with a PIN code sent to the person waiting for the delivery before the truck arrives at their location. The patent also suggests the locker could be unlocked by a customer’s credit card, or an NFC reader."
Once we have robot assistants they will be able to pick out and carry whatever is delivered on our behalf.
