Would you be attracted to someone trying to kill you?
Eric Barker stashed this in Emotion

I had wondered why amusement parks have roller coasters. This explanation makes sense to me.
Misattribution of emotions is fascinating. Next time you want to make a gathering more friendly and social, turn up the thermostat a few degrees. Our brains mistake the physical warmth for emotional warmth.
That's interesting because I had heard that hotter temperatures are conducive to conflict.
So perhaps warmth makes people warm but heat makes people hot?
Both are true. :)
The key differentiator is comfort. "Warm and toasty" is pleasant and promotes warm emotions. Truly hot is physically uncomfortable and can put people on edge, increasing aggression.
The difference between comfort and discomfort is just a few degrees. Fascinating!
