It's not just reading fiction that helps you understand people better. For Silicon Valley in particular, I find that the classics are very helpful because people here are so world-historically power-hungry! If you've never read Machiavelli's Discourses on Livy, I can recommend them highly :)

Oh, I think that perhaps a lot of people in this business are getting some of the same benefits from the TV show _Game of Thrones_.

I love fiction. I used to make it for a living. That said, be careful; stories can be far more powerful than you think -- and that is not always good.
