Kim-Mai Cutler continues her excellent series about the barriers to growth in the Bay Area with a focus on Oakland. I should mention that Oakland is the world capital of JavaScript startups, which is not super-funded sexy but could be technically relevant for years to come. Also Oakland is home to only ONE Fortune 500 company, Clorox.

I wonder why so many JavaScript startups are in Oakland.

And why so few Fortune 500 companies are there.
